An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Galamsey kingpin Aisha Huang into police custody for illegal mining. This was after she and three others were re-arrested for their roles in the crime.
They have been charged with illegal mining and the sale and purchase of minerals. They are scheduled to appear in court again on September 14, 2022. They all entered not guilty pleas to all charges. According to Ghana News Agency, the court upheld her plea because there was no Chinese interpreter present. Johng Li Hua, Huang Jei, and Huaid Hai Hun are the three.
GNA has provided a few details below.
According to the evidence presented in court, the complainants are security and intelligence officers, and the accused are Chinese nationals. Aisha gained “notoriety” for engaging in a series of small-scale mining activities known as galamsey across the country

Aisha was arrested in 2017 for a similar offense but managed to “sneak out” of the country, avoiding prosecution. Aisha “snuck” into Ghana earlier this year after changing the details on her Chinese passport.
According to the complaint, Aisha resumed small-scale mining activities without a license and engaged in the purchase and sale of minerals in Accra without valid authority granted by the Minerals and Mining Act.
