The little but powerful iPhone version has been discontinued.
At its Wonderlust event on Tuesday, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 15 line. The firm then reorganised the remainder of its smartphone portfolio, retiring the iPhone 13 Mini in the process. The 5.4-inch phone with a smaller size has been formally retired, effectively ending the Mini phone size that debuted with the iPhone 12 Mini in 2020.
Even though the iPhone 12 Mini and 13 Mini have supporters, strong sales weren’t always a result of their adoration. According to a number of reports from 2021, the market’s demand for the iPhone 12 Mini was weaker than expected. For example, Counterpoint Research claims that in January 2021, sales of the iPhone 12 Mini were just 5% of those of the iPhone 12.
According to Counterpoint, neither the iPhone 12 Mini nor the iPhone 13 Mini made it into the top 10 list of the best-selling smartphones by the end of 2021, despite the fact that the list also includes a number of other iPhone 12 and 13 variants. In 2022, the iPhone 13 Mini also failed to make the top 10, but three other iPhone 13 variants did.
Apple chose not to introduce a Mini-sized version of the iPhone 14 or iPhone 15. Instead, they decided to launch the iPhone 14 Plus last year, offering a larger-screen option that is more affordable compared to Apple’s Pro Max models.
As the iPhone 13 Mini reaches its end, individuals who prefer compact smartphones have limited choices. Apple still offers the $429 iPhone SE, featuring a 4.7-inch screen, but it maintains an older design with a home button and noticeable bezels.
Alternatively, those interested can explore the Android market, where the Asus Zenfone 10 stands out for its speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and a 5.9-inch display. While it’s a commendable phone, its support for only two years of Android updates falls short of our recommendation due to its limited lifespan.
On the premium side of foldable phones, both the Motorola Razr Plus and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 function like compact phones when folded. However, these foldable devices come with a $1,000 price tag, significantly higher than the starting price of the iPhone 13 Mini in 2021, which was $729.
Moving forward, when considering new iPhone models equipped with Face ID and multiple rear cameras, the smallest available display size will be 6.1 inches.
