The 118 emojis include both updated versions of previously used emoticons and whole new ones.
What is the common thread among a lime, mushroom, phoenix, nodding heads, and a broken chain? They are all part of the latest emojis sanctioned by Unicode, the international standard for messaging. The recent announcement has solidified the roster of these newly approved emojis.
The upcoming 15.1 update will introduce 118 fresh emojis. Many of these additions are diverse renditions of existing emojis, encompassing variations in skin tones and different orientations.
Furthermore, the new emojis expand upon existing ones, depicting them in various orientations, such as walking individuals, runners, people kneeling, those using wheelchairs, and individuals with white canes. Additionally, the update incorporates four new gender-neutral family representations.
However, it’s worth noting that these emojis won’t be readily accessible on your keyboard just yet. Although Unicode version 15.1.0 received approval on September 12 (you can review the details here), there will be a gap between approval and their actual release. Emojipedia anticipates that these new emojis might become available by the end of this year or early 2024.
Furthermore, it’s likely that the appearance of each emoji may slightly differ depending on whether you’re using an Apple or Google smartphone.
The previous emoji release introduced highly anticipated additions, including a pink heart, a turquoise heart, a jellyfish, a moose, a different shaking head emoji, and more.
