The Roblox team talks about how the updates show that Roblox is beginning to expand across platforms, into VR, and possibly even AR as well.
Even while generative AI tools are now widely available and VR and AR devices are becoming more popular, there hasn’t been much discussion of the metaverse recently. Virtual worlds like Roblox may change as a result of generative AI. Future metaverse environments could take on a different feel depending on how AI influences how players and producers construct games, items, and worlds.
Expanding on initiatives initiated earlier this year, Roblox is adding additional generative AI, including a new AI Assistant for coding. At the most recent Roblox developer conference, which is now taking place in San Francisco, the news was revealed.
Quest VR headsets already support Roblox, which was released in beta this year and is now available in its final form on Meta’s app store. At its developer conference, Roblox recently announced that the software would be coming to the PlayStation in October. With this announcement, the platform’s multiverse of little gaming worlds will now extend beyond phones, tablets, and PCs.
Avatar chat is included in one of the most intriguing new features, though. By the end of the year, Roblox Connect will employ cameras to capture face movements and translate them onto Roblox avatars, enabling avatar chat in a manner much to how Microsoft integrated avatars into Teams.
Yes, Roblox caters primarily to children. But it seems like it is aiming higher and higher.
