On October 7, Funtouch OS 14 will start to roll out to the iQoo 11 5G.
Vivo and iQoo have announced that their smartphones, including the Vivo X90 and iQoo 11, will receive the Funtouch OS 14 update during this month, as revealed on Friday. Funtouch OS 14 is built on Android 14, the latest iteration of Google’s smartphone operating system. After the update is installed, users can expect enhanced multitasking capabilities, improved customization choices, and new security and privacy features, according to the manufacturers. However, both Vivo and iQoo have yet to provide an official timeline for the widespread release of Funtouch OS 14 to all compatible devices.
Both smartphone companies issued press releases on Friday confirming the rollout of Funtouch OS 14 to their devices. It was announced that the iQoo 11 would receive the update on October 7, while the Vivo X90 would follow suit “later this month.” iQoo suggests that eligible smartphones will start receiving the update later this year or early next year, while Vivo states that the update will gradually extend to other devices following the Vivo X90.
With the Funtouch OS 14 update, users can anticipate improved system performance thanks to a new RAM Saver feature, which can allow more apps to remain active concurrently by optimizing and reducing the number of persistent processes, thereby conserving up to 600MB of memory for devices with 8GB or more RAM. Furthermore, an App Retainer feature will remember and restore the status of whitelisted apps when they are reopened.
Funtouch OS 14 also elevates multitasking, allowing users to keep up to 12 small windows active in the background, making them easily accessible while the primary app remains open. These could encompass ride-sharing apps, video apps, or chat applications, and they can be seamlessly switched with a single tap, as indicated in the smartphone companies’ press release.
Similar to the Android 14 release for Pixel smartphones on Wednesday, the Funtouch OS 14 update will introduce new personalization and customization options, enabling users to tailor the lock screen clock, experiment with fresh color palettes, and apply a power-saving monochrome theme.
Moreover, the Funtouch OS 14 update will introduce new security and privacy enhancements. It will prevent notifications from appearing during screen mirroring, and hidden photos will gain an extra layer of protection with an additional password requirement, according to the company’s statements.
