An A18 Pro Bionic chip will purportedly power the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Apple’s iPhone 15 series is still relatively new on the market, but speculation regarding the iPhone 16 lineup for the next year has already started. A recent report claims that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 0.2-inch bigger display than the iPhone 15 Pro models, even though the devices won’t be available for purchase for another year. They might be equipped with Qualcomm’s most recent cellular modem for enhanced 5G performance. The Snapdragon X70 modem is reportedly still used by Apple in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Also rumoured for the Pro versions is Wi-Fi 7 connectivity and a possible new ultra-wide lens for the back.
According to a report by 9to5Mac citing tech expert Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are expected to debut in 2024 and will have displays that are approximately 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches in size, respectively. This would be a significant screen size boost over the current iPhone 15 versions if the story were to prove true. To enable faster and more effective 5G communication, Pu claims they will include Qualcomm’s most recent Snapdragon X75 cellular modem.
The analyst suggests that the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will retain the Snapdragon X70 modem, which is the same modem found in the recent iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Likewise, it’s reported that the iPhone 16 Pro model will offer Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to receive an upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E. This year’s Pro models already support Wi-Fi 6E.
Additionally, Jeff Pu mentions that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a 12-megapixel tetra-prism lens for improved zoom capabilities. The Pro lineup is set to feature a new ultra-wide lens, with a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a substantial improvement over the 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera in the iPhone 15 Pro.
According to Pu, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be powered by the A18 Pro Bionic chip using a 3nm process, while the regular iPhone 16 models will receive a slightly downgraded A17 Pro chip. As for the standard iPhone 16, it’s noted that Apple will equip it with two rear camera sensors lacking optical zoom.
This information aligns with previous reports, including one from DSCC analyst Ross Young in May, which also suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro models would see a screen size update.
Apple recently unveiled the iPhone 15 series at its Wonderlust event. The starting price for the iPhone 15 Pro in India is Rs. 1,39,900 for the 128GB storage model, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max begins at Rs. 1,59,900. These models are currently available for purchase in the country.
